Using the same principle of a string telephone played by kids, this device delivers frictional vibrations of the canvas made by stroke of an artist — JAZOO Yang through metal springs to a musician –haku sungho. The collected sounds from the device are taken into a computer and simultaneously the musician proceeds sampling andrecording the sounds.

The sounds (of strokes) are amplified and affected by prepared speakers and a guitar amp, and it conveys the trajectory of the painter’s motion to the painter herself again. Every sound source is oscillated from the canvas. The main concept of this device is involving the inevitable sounds made by bodily movements of the painter and making the musical order deviated
from what the painter could expect.

Canvas Instrument Ⅱ

Music : Haku Sungho Painting : Jazoo Yang Live Painting at Arena Club, Berlin23 March 2018TRIBE V °The Getae, a Thracian tribe° ed.

This canvas instrument is a device that coexists and complicates perception of different areas (or so defined) respectively. Painter Jazoo Yang and musician Haku Sungho share a different perception from their traditional methodology. All the sounds are transmitted to the musician through this instrument, that is, through the actions of the painter, and musicians can not select their own sounds. On the other hand, the painter expands the sense of friction in her painting , because it is amplified as sounds. Among the conditions that can be called these 'constraints', the most important point is to explore ways in which each perception is reborn in a newly overlapping area, through the Canvas Instrument , using a simple and understandable principle

[Transforming Structure for Trans-media Performance by JAZOO YANG for painting, LIGHTIZM for visual mapping, TSCHAAN and VIGOROUS VLACK for electronic music and IVAAIU for architecture.]
This structure is devised by IVAAIU City Planning to create the space with maximum possibility of creativity.
1 structure is consisted of 12 walls which can rotate 180 degrees and 48 doors with canvases which also can rotate 180 degrees.
The structure itself is on wheels and connected with hinges; each artist can move the wall, door and entire structure easily with own hand.
September 27th in 2014, at the opening show of MOVING TRIENNALE BUSAN 2014, this structure is operated by the artists. Jazoo Yang was the operator of the structure, she moved the structure, painted on the wall, opened and closed the door. According to the movement of walls, doors, paintings and the structure, Lightizm mapped the interactive visual on the moving surfaces of the structure. DJ Tschaan and Vigorous Vlack created the audio sources for interactive audio-visual mapping. Every movement of the artists interacts with each other’s.
Afterwards, this dodecagon structure is divided to several mobile structures and travel multiple exhibition and performance venues of MOVING TRIENNALE BUSAN 2014, and support various urban creatives in Busan city. For instance, October 18th in 2014, 1/4 of Transforming Dodecagon is separated and reprogrammed as a mobile interactive audio-visual structure and create outdoor performance space for local music party ARTKLOOP Vol.2 which is the part of MOVING TRIENNALE BUSAN 2014.

When  painter (JAZOO Yang) paints on a canvas, her action and image are filmed with a video camera and transferred to media artist (Nahsol) in real time. After receiving the action of a painter and the sound signals of a musician (DJI), media artist distorts or adds effects to them, and re-sends them to a canvas. Through this process, painting, music and media interactively respond to each other in a performance.
